Additional Franklin in the Dark Information

In the Franklin Classic Storybook that started it all, poor little Franklin has one of the most common childhood afflictions -- he is afraid of the dark. This is particularly distressing for Franklin as he happens to be a turtle, and the darkness he fears is, of course, inside his own shell. Bravely, with shell in tow, he sets forth to seek help and in the course of his travels discovers a bird who is afraid of heights, a polar bear who is afraid of the cold, and even a hydrophobic duck. In the end, Franklin discovers that everybody is afraid of something, even his own mother, and his response to what he has learned is guaranteed to draw a smile.

What Customers Say About Franklin in the Dark:

It really helped my son overcome his fears of the dark. This book is GREAT. We noticed a huge difference after he started reading this book.

To this day, 20 years later, I still have my original copy that sits amongst the other classics in my bookshelf. The characters are very cute and very vivid. I have loved this book for 20 years, hopefully you will too. My parents gave me this book when I was 3 or 4. I remember reading it over and over and over again for a very long time. It is even complete with my 4 year old handwriting on the inside cover: "This book belongs to." written on the inside.

Book is about overcoming fear. And reading this particular book to him was no exception. Good book, fun reading. My [.]. year old son loves Franklin. Franklin is afraid of the dark, but everyone is afraid of something - so how do you overcome.

This books helps to show how the characters deal with their fears. I had no problems with an increase in fears after reading this book but neither of my children are very fearful of the dark. I found this book to be helpful in getting my daughter to realize that everyone is afraid of something and that fear is a natural emotion. If your child is very fearful of the dark, I would recommend you read the book before sharing with your child.

But unless our child is some sort of anomoly, it could also have the potential of giving bad ideas to a child who is not afraid of the dark.Consider your child when you purchase this book. I don't think it ever occurred to him that you *should* be afraid of the dark. The thing is, my son was never afraid of the dark. We can't get him to tell us what they are about exactly but they have something to do with Franklin and his small, dark shell. This might be a good book to help a child who is afraid of the dark get over it. This was our first Franklin book and my son really, really likes Franklin now. I had never heard of him before this book, which was a "gift" from the pediatrician for my son's pre-preschool check-up.The Franklin books are great. This one, however, I wish we had skipped. But after reading this book, he started to have nightmares.
